Colosseo Roman arena
Colosseum or Colosseo, 48, 189 m long, 156 m wide. The outer wall has a perimeter of 545 m and must use 100,000 m3 of travertine stone, held together by 300 tons of iron rings, which is a major arena in the city of Rome. Can accommodate 50,000 spectators. The arena is used for boxers competing and public performances. The arena was built around 70 and 72 ad (CE) under Emperor Vespasian. It is the largest building of the Titus period built in the Roman Empire completed in 80 AD, modified during the Domitian Emperor.
The Colosseo arena was used for almost 500 years, after the fall of the Roman Empire in 476. The arena where the fighter's fight, also used as a demonstration of false exercises on the sea, hunting animals, classical plays. The arena was used as a place of medieval recreation. The latter used as houses, shops, French stations...Over time, in 1349 a major earthquake collapsed the entire outer wall of the southern side. A large portion of the stone from it was taken away for the construction of palaces, churches and other structures, the outer marble layer was used for lime kilns, and the iron and copper cores were stolen. The northern perimeter of the arena remains intact with traces of restoration of the 19th century. The Remains of Colosseo today are the original wall, which is considered a symbol of the Roman Empire and one of the most beautiful architectural patterns left. As Rome's fascinating tourist destination, every year on Easter Friday, the pope still has a torch-carrying parade to Colosseo its Way of the Cross of Good Friday.
History of St. Paul's Temple
According to the document St. Paul was beheaded at the Trois-Fontaines monastery, on via Laurentina in Rome. His body, for centuries, was hidden in a family coffin. It was not until 313, when Emperor Constantine issued religious freedom in the Roman empire, that public ceremonies began to venerate and visit the Tomb of St. Paul, the body of St. Paul placed in the Tomb next to Ostiense Street, the Tomb of St. Paul became a place of pilgrimage and reverence for Christians. On his grave a small memorial house (Cella memoriae) was established. According to the Liber Pontificalis, it was Emperor Costantino who began the construction of the Cathedral on the Tomb of St. Paul and was consecrated on 18.11.324 in the time of Pope Silvestro I (314-335) this original cathedral was relatively small. The larger cathedral built in 386 was completed under Emperor Onorio in 395. The cathedral has 5 spaces, 4 rows of columns separated, including 80 marble columns. It was the largest cathedral of Christianity before St. Peter's Temple was built. During the 15th century, many people visited and prayed.
The renaissance of Paul's cathedral remains intact. Unfortunately on 15 and 16 July 1823, due to the carelessness of a fireman burned down. The architects Bosio and Belli advised to rebuild completely new, rendering the old model. Many classes from culture and politics supported Leo XII to rebuild him. He addressed the letter “Ad plurimas easque gravissimas " on January 25, 1825, inviting bishops to open the donation for the reconstruction. The appeal was met and many sent money to Rome. The Viceroy of Egypt donated white stone columns and Tsar Nicola I donated stone blocks as two altars on either side.
The new cathedral was inaugurated in 1854, the reconstruction of which lasted 100 years. In 1928, four 100-column Gates were built by The Architect Guglielmo Calderini. The campus outside the church has 150 columns, all of which are a single block. The bronze door is a masterpiece of Bizantine art set by Giovanni VII in Constantinople.
The cathedral is 136 m long, 65 m wide, 29.7 m high. there are 5 pavilions, divided by 24 columns, on the gold-encrusted ceiling of a magnificent image, surrounded by rectangular columns with portraits of 264 popes, from Peter to John Paul II and Benedict XVI, the end of which on the right hand looks up and empty circles for the portrait of the next pope. The mosaic in the harem was made by the painters of Venice in the 13th century: Christ sat on the throne, between St. Peter and Andrew on the right, and St. Paul and Luke on the left. At his feet there is a small figure of Onorio III kneeling, along with his predecessor Innocenzo III and his successor Gregorio IX, who made the mosaic. Pope Pius IX inaugurated the suburban Cathedral in 1854, in the presence of 185 bishops who came to Rome to attend the proclamation of the creed of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception. (image of St. Paul's Tomb)
Under the main altar there is a marble slab every 2.12×1.27 m, inscribed with the inscription: “Paolo Apostolo Mart” (dedicated to the Apostle Paul martyr). But this stele consisting of many composite pieces is the Tomb of St. Paul. On the main altar is a canopy (ciborio) made by Arnolfo di Cambio in Rome in 1282. This canopy was only damaged in the fire of 1823 and was restored later. At the 4 corners of the canopy there are 4 statues that show me the Saints Peter, Paul, Luke and the Sea of Germany. Paul's cathedral is one of the four largest basilicas of the Vatican the Statue of Saint Paul in his hands has a book and a symbolic sword: he wrote many letters to the early congregations, he wrote all 14 such letters to the congregation of Rome, Thessaloniki, epheso... and enthusiasm conquers the human heart for faith in Jesus Christ.
Paul was the one who persecuted those who believed in Jesus but was later transformed into the one who preached about Jesus and became the one who was persecuted. "Love is patience, kindness, not jealousy, not pride, not doing iniquity, not seeking self-interest, not anger, not raising hatred, not rejoicing in iniquity, but glad to see what is true. Love forgives all, trust all, hope all, endure all. Love can never be lost."(ICr 13, 4-8).
